How do you go about choosing a work from home career? For some people, it’s a breeze. Professionals such as accountants, nurses, programmers, teachers, and other specialties are finding many telecommuting opportunities online nowadays. If you're interested in finding out if your industry has something to offer, do a search on Monster or Google with the words “home based”, “work from home” or “telecommute” and your industry. If you can't find anything in your field, then it's time to look for other career options – virtual assisting, freelancing in your field, answering the phone for fortune 500 companies.
So is it worth changing fields and taking a salary cut? It depends on what you're interested in changing in your life. There are plenty of lost souls everywhere who toil away at jobs they work at just because they need to bring in a paycheck. For some people, this is fine with them and they make a career out of what they have to do – but not what they necessarily want to do. Weigh the pros and cons equally – you won't have to buy new work clothes every season. Your gas costs will be whatever you choose for them to be – and your commute time? Nil. If you have a dream you want to pursue, you can start to build on it slowly in the time and money you save. If you want to spend more time on family goals, you can do that, too.
There are plenty of people working from home in fields they never thought they would enjoy and they get much more than they thought possible out of it – job security, decent salaries, benefits, discounts on catalogs, and the reward of doing a job well done. Most of the women working from home today are moms, grandmoms, with an education and experience in the regular workforce that simply wanted or needed a change in their lives. Let's face it, mothers don't want to spend their days staring down their children's photos in a cubicle. That's what makes these work at home positions so appealing – many of them help women choose a better future in life, for themselves, their families, and for the balance of all of their goals in between.
Choosing a work from home career is a big decision, so do it with care, but do it with excitement as well. You could be starting a new phase of your life and it could be the best part ever!
