The average newbie now has “too many” options to choose from, and the battle for blogging supremacy is hotter than ever.
At my website and blogs, I’m always asked the question “Is Wordpress better than Blogger?”. The answer, of course, is “Yes”. But to really understand why, it’s important to look at both blogging platforms side-by-side and see which one you really need.
Here’s the comparison scale:
1) Ease of Set-up And Use
Yes, it’s much easier to set-up a blog with Blogspot.com and get your own Bloggger account. You can be done in 10 minutes flat. Once you’re set-up you can start posting immediately. If you want to add a designer’s touch to your blog, there are also tons of blogger templates available for free.
Installing Wordpress however can be a major headache if you don’t know what you’re doing. Since you’re going to host it on your own account, you’ll need to download the installation files, upload them to your server, set-up a database, and run the configuration script.
However, if you know which hosting account to get, you can choose one with Cpanel included. With Cpanel, you can do a one-click installation, upgrade and removal of your Wordpress platform.

With Wordpress, not only can you add categories, you can also display each category differently on your main page. You can also get pretty themes and nifty little tools that you can add to the core template files. However, that’s as far as you can go with Blogger.
With Wordpress however, the sky is the limit. As cliche as that may sound, not only can you get themes, additional “plugins” and advanced tools, you can also extend Wordpress to far beyond just a blogging platform.

There’s this propaganda that since Google owns Blogger, they tend to favor Blogger accounts. I won’t say that this is illogical, but from my experience, there’s no such favoritism.
I’ve heard as many stories of getting indexed fast and ranking high in search engines from both Wordpress and Blogger users. As long as the content is good, the spiders will come.
When you post in Blogger, you can only “ping” a limited amount of sites, whereas with Wordpress on your own domain you can ping as many blog directories as you want, and start getting more traffic.
As a conclusion, I would say that Wordpress is only slightly ahead in terms of optimization for search engines, and building large amounts of traffic.
6) Money-Making Potential
There’s no doubt that it’s easier to get started with Google Adsense if you have a Blogger account. In fact you can now apply for Adsense from within a Blogger account. Not entirely surprising considering the fact that both are owned by the same company.
With Wordpress, it can get tricky. The default installation is not enough. You’ll need a couple of plugins and even a better theme to really maximize the Adsense potential. However, this seems to be getting easier and there’s even “Adsense revenue sharing” plugins around that allow you to share ad revenue with other contributors and writers for your blog.
When you start using Wordpress to build your Adsense websites, you’ll soon discover what I mean. It’s something you need to experience for yourself. I can tell you one thing though – when you go Wordpress, you don’t go back.

I recently took a look at the amount of clutter taking up space in my home and decided that there must be a way to dig out from under it — I mean “put it all to better use” – and make a little money at the same time. Here are five ways I was able to create cash out of clutter — without resorting to Craigslist or Ebay (though those are good options, too):
1.) Sell your extra books. I’m a book fiend, a book addict, a book enthusiast. My family has come close to staging interventions for me over my first-edition addiction, but I culled through my collection and made about $200 selling some of them to Cash4Books instead. Cash4Books accepts audiobooks and text books as well as softcovers and hardback tomes, and they even pay shipping — type in the ISBN (above the barcode) to see if they’re buying what you want to sell.
2.) Cull through your DVD and video game collections. Half.com is part of the vast online flea market that is Ebay, but it’s much, much easier to navigate. There are no listing fees, for one thing, and while you do pay a percentage of the profit once your item has sold, it’s really quite reasonable. You’re listings are limited to media (books, video games, music, movies), but Half.com reimburses most of your shipping costs, collects the money from buyers for you, and pays out twice a month via paypal (no chasing down delinquent bidders. Woot!).
3.) Pick up those pennies and turn them into gift cards. Those green Coinstar machines at your grocery store can do more than count your change for you. If you cash in more than $40 worth of coins and turn the money into a gift card or eCertificate, they’ll waive the counting fees. The gift cards are for big-name stores like Amazon, AMC movie theaters, Lowe’s, Old Navy, and ITunes. Keep in mind: You don’t have to give the gift cards away; use them augment your own holiday shopping budget, if you need to. Think those nickels and dimes aren’t worth the time it takes to dig them out from between the sofa cushions? My husband gathered up the change from his nightstand and random coat pockets and ended up with more than $100. Crazy.
4.) Get crafty. This isn’t a “money for nothing” suggestion as much as it is a “money for something you do anyway” one. If you have a hobby, put it to work for you. Making cute ornaments out of recycled lightbulbs? Sell them on Etsy. Make your own giftbaskets? Sell them on Etsy (or give them instead of purchsed gifts and save money that way). Have a knack for creative and unusual and cool jewelry? Etsy, Etsy, Etsy.

Keep in mind that you'll generate earnings from CPC expandable ads when a user visits the advertiser's landing page, and not when a user simply clicks to expand the ad.

Withdrawing Adsense Earnimgs Through Western Union
Adsense introduced a new payment method to some countries, including Malaysia, where you can receive your Adsense income through Western Union. Since I couldn’t spare any time to really look into it then, I set my Adsense payment to on hold. Somewhere in December 2007, after going through Inside Adsense again, I reset my on hold setting and setup to receive my payment through Western Union. After that, withdrawing money from Adsense is just plain simple.
If you opt Western Union Quick Cash, payments will be available for pickup at your local Western Union agent the day after they are issued. Cool! You no longer need to wait for the check to arrive. No more international check’s fees and no more waiting for the check to clear. Bank fees can sometimes eat your earnings especially those that charge by percentage.
How To Setup Adsense for Western Union payment?
It’s very simple:
- Login to Adsense.
- Go to ‘My Account’ > ‘Account Settings’ > ‘Payment Details’ and clik on ‘Edit’.
- You will be taken to the screen below. Click on the ‘Setup Western Union Quick Cash’ radio button and click ‘Continue’.
- At the confirmation page, make sure that the payee name is correct and click ‘Save Changes’. Please make sure that the name on your account matches the one in your MyKad/id, you’ll need that to pick up the money. Just in case it isn’t, you can always request the Adsense team to change it for you.
- Just wait for Adsense to release your payment and you are ready to withdraw the money.
How To Withdraw Money from Western Union?
In Malaysia, you can withdraw at CIMB, RHB and Pos Malaysia, but before you proceed to the nearest branch, it wise to call up or check their websites whether withdrawal can be made at that branch or not. You will also need these information:
- Your 10 digit Material Transfer Control No (MTCN)
- Your MyKad (at Pos Malaysia, you will need to attach a photocopy, not sure about whether the banks required or not)
- The amount to be received and
- Google’s address.
The Withdrawing Process
- Login to Adsense again.
- Go to ‘My Account’ > ‘Payment History’ and click on the latest ‘Payment Issued - details’.
- Click on ‘Statement of Earnings’, print that and you have all the information you need to fill in the withdrawal form.
- Go to the nearest Pos Malaysia and in the next 30 minutes, you will have more money in your pocket.
The money will only be available for 35 days at Western Union, but don’t worry, payment will be credited back to your Adsense account in case you’re busy and forgot to withdraw.
The process at Pos Malaysia was fast, other the the time taken to fill in the form and get my MyKad photocopied, it only took me 10 minutes to get my money. I prefer Pos Malaysia than banks due to the reason that the service is always fast and they are open on Sunday.
Now, that’s a reason to smile 
I posted this months ago in my old blog. I am slowly moving my old post here. It may be old news for some, but I noticed that there are people who are still receiving checks although the value is only a few hundreds dollars.
