Deputy Marshal and How to Get Deputy Marshal Job

There are many exciting aspects to such a job as this. So just how do you get a Deputy Marshal job?

Qualifications

In order for you to become a Deputy Marshal, you will need to be a U.S. citizen and be between the ages of 21 and 37. As long as you are appointed a Deputy Marshal before your 37th birthday, you will be just fine.

You also have to have a bachelor’s degree or at least 3 years experience or some combination of both education and experience. While not specified, a degree or experience in criminal justice or law enforcement field will be helpful. Your driving record must be in good standing and you need to be in good physical condition. You will also have to meet certain medical requirements and go through a background check.

Once you have met the qualifications, you will then need to go through a 17 ½-week basic training program. This is through the U.S. Marshals Service Training Academy, which is located in Glynco, GA.

Possible jobs

Once you have become a full-fledged Deputy Marshal, you can venture out into such areas as the Judicial Security system. You can also get into JPATS, which involves the transportation of prisoners from one facility to another such as court. You may also get a job in the area of Fugitive Investigations. Some people prefer to get into the special programs or missions such as the witness security.

The options are pretty much endless. No matter which path you choose to go with, you will have an exciting and rewarding career.

If you want to get into this field, then you will need to first attend an information session that is held right at the academy. You can check directly with them for dates and times. This will help you to make an educated decision where your career is concerned.

The information session will give you the necessary paperwork so that you can get things started. Next, you will need to get the medical part completed and the background check as well.

Once you complete the entire process, you will have to keep a watch as to what position is open so that you can apply to the one of your choice. This can be done by visiting websites that cover the career in more detail.

If you can find one, you may also want to get with a local recruiting officer to help you find the position that you are best qualified for. Before you know it, you will be working as a Deputy Marshal, in your area of choice, in no time at all.
